Valentine's Snack Attack

Riddle me this, "When did cheese become soooooo expensive?"  I think I paid over $5 for a sack of Babybel cheese yesterday.  Sapphire has been at my heels for sometime now, asking for Babybel cheese in her lunch.  A classmate introduced her to it and ever since, she's been fixated on this little "luxury" snack!
I'm often frustrated by the cost of healthy, nutritious food.  I can buy a pack of cookies for $0.99 but a bag of fresh greens beans cost $3.99.

Well, I hope Sapphire realizes how much I LOVE HER when I send this little snack in her lunch tommorow!

Which food items do you feel are overpriced?
Can we actually put a price on eating healthy?
Are there any nutritionists reading this post?  If so, is Babybel cheese a healthy snack alternative or am I just wasting my money?

Hi! I'm a new follower from the blog hop.
My husband and I are constantly amazed by how prices are jumping up. It seems that junk food gets cheaper while healthy food gets more expensive.

I'm a new follower from the hop! I completely share your frusteration...at the grocery store I constantly feel the need to decide whether I can be "healthy" or "cheap" but never both! Good luck!

That is adorable!

I always try to give them the best food but it's hard when organics and dye free foods are so much more expensive!

I figure the expense is usually worth it. I'm a big Jillian Michaels fan and she said long term you will save money, money on the health care and side effects of eating cheap junk. It sort of put it into perspective for me. Like lactose free or organic milk/items are always twice the price and it makes me so mad but I figure if I buy it and continue to support it eventually everyone else will too and the prices will come down.

Our kids are big fans of babybel and I pair them with my snack along with some almonds for a big protein punch before my runs. :)

I think all kinds of fruits are overpriced but I think food stores would rather push pop, chips, cookies, and other things rather than a healthy fruit snack. Great blog! Glad I found it!

What a great idea! Hubs is a cheese addict and half the time I get him cheese for holidays. This will be his Valentine this year.
Thanks for stopping by my blog! Following you back.

I hear ya. I've been researching coupons and planning meals ahead so I can stay in budget but I think eating healthy is worth it :)

I love Babybel cheese, its actually the only one I can sit down and eat. Since hubby likes it as well I often pick up a couple of bags during our shopping trip....its only $2 and we have several .40cents off coupons so it works out pretty good for now. Since it is one of the few dairy products I can eat without getting sick I wish it was a little more affordable.

New follower from Stepping By Saturday! I hope you stop by one (or both) of my blogs :) Have a wonderful weekend!

And I totally agree with u on the prices of healthier food. I've been trying to find better choices for my family, but it's really hard to find non-junk food snacks that are affordable. I wish someone would go and make a list of all the good stuff with good prices!

New GFC follower. Lots of good replies. You also have to consider if you cut up an apple and eat it with a spoonful of peanut butter it will fill you up & keep you full longer than chips and dip, etc...just a quick example. Try & use coupons too. Lots of coupons for frozen veggies, nuts and yogurt out there. I would look for a new store, I have never paid over $3 for a bag of Babybel. String cheese is another good snack most kids love. Buy things in season, canned fruits & frozen usually less than fresh in winter & if you buy w/o added sugars, just as good for you.
Thanks for letting me vent!

coupons can help a little bit... but yes they are overpriced.
