Save money by making your own fruit rollups-Super Simple

Sapphire, Opal and Pearl all love these.  I must admit, they are a tasty little snack.  Not to mention, they're convenient and for the most part, healthy to boot!   The only thing I don't like about them is their price tag.  When they go on sale or if you buy them in bulk, you can typically purchase them for about $0.33/fruit to go.  Times this by 3 kids + 1 mom and they're not exactly a budget friendly snack.
That's why I started making my own.
A couple years ago I received a food dehydrator for Christmas.  (I have to profess my love for homemade beef jerky)  This dehydrator is the perfect tool for making homemade fruit rollups.
With Autumn comes harvest season.  I can't think of a better time then now to start preserving all your left over fruits or veggies.

You can use a dehydrator like the one I have (shown below)  I simply dumped 1 jar of applesauce onto the sheet, set the dial for 135 degrees c and let it dehydrate for 6-8 hours.

Note-A standard oven can be used for drying fruit leather. Set your oven for about 150 degrees for about 6-10 hours. If your oven has an internal fan, consider running it regularly to circulate the moisture laden air out. Otherwise, leaving the oven door slightly ajar periodically will achieve the same result.

You must take a boo at these funky polka dot fruit roll ups.   Lovin them!
I hope this inspires you to make a simple, healthy and economical snack for yourself or the kiddos!

Enjoy and Cheers Everyone,

I love this! Can you do the same with any pureed fruit?

I have the best memories of making fruit rollups with my grandmother, but we never cut them into cute shapes, which is ironic because she is the person that taught me to cut EVERYTHING with a cookie cutter!
