The multipurpose product that everyone should be using more often

BAKING SODA-it's not just for baking!  Who new?
Well apparently everyone except me!

Let me explain...
Today I was sitting in my break room at work, when I come across a book titled, "75 Extraordinary Uses For Baking Soda".  Yep, someone actually managed to publish a book, explaining all the many uses for baking soda.  If that person can publish a book about baking soda, then surely to God, I can fabricate a blog post about this so called "multipurpose product"!

So what is baking soda and why is it such a great product?
Baking soda, aka Sodium Bicarbonate, has been around since ancient times and is a relatively safe and simple chemical.  In fact, it's so safe, you can consume it.  I wonder if this is why mummies always seem to have a mouthful of teeth.  They apparently brushed their teeth with the white, powdery, naturally occurring product.

After reading the book, I gained a wealth of knowledge and a new appreciation for this seemingly household product.

For example, sprinkle some baking soda on your produce when rinsing them to get rid of the toxic pesticides.
Baking soda is a fabulous cleaner with antiseptic properties.  Here's something I never thought to do, rinse baby bottles with warm water and baking soda.  Or get this, add 2 tbsp of baking soda to your baby's bath water to help relieve diaper rash irritations.

Here's another scenario...you're husband neglected to clean the bbq grill all summer(always blame it on your other half), sprinkle it with baking soda, let soak, then rinse off.

I'm not finished yet folks, say you pig out on homemade salsa while watching three downloaded episodes of Glee, now you have unbearable heartburn.  Don't waste your hard earned money on costly antacids.  Mix 1/2 tsp of baking soda in 1/2 cup of water and drink it to relieve indigestion.

O.K., I'm starting to sound like a late night infomercial.  I'll stop now!
The point is, baking soda is definitely a product that I'm buying in bulk from now on!
Does anyone have any other helpful suggestions on how to incorporate baking soda into our daily activities?

Two Tips Tuesday

 Save Money

Schools , universities and businesses are saving money and so can you!
Wondering how?  Well, according to a study done by printer.com you can save $40/year by simply switching your default font.  Printing documents with a font such as Century Gothic rather than Times or Arial will afford you one less ink cartridge per year.
As well take into consideration the standard advice for trimming printing costs: Print in "draft" mode, use both sides of the page, and always select "print preview" to make sure you're not printing pages with useless text such as a copyright line.
Here are some fonts to consider

Save Time

Are you frustrated and wasting time trying to find the end of the clear packaging tape?  I agree, clear tape is EVIL but here's the simple solution that I use.

I know, totally genious right?  A tooth pick attached to the end of the clear tape will keep your blood from boiling over when you want to find the end of the roll.

Do you have any helpful tips that will help save everyone time or money?  Leave me a comment or email me and I will consider them for next week's "Two Tips Tuesday Post"

Tuesday Tip-Use your kids craft supplies to clean your keyboard!

Look down right now!  Look!  Down!  Seriously look down at your keyboard.
I know!
Totally dirty right?  Consider this-There are about 2,696,400 germs on your keyboard right now!

That's equivalent to the number of germs on 539 toilet seats.

Because I work in a hospital, I've become somewhat obsessed with cleaning and/or sterilizing high traffic areas of contact.  Unfortunately, cleaning a keyboard is often pretty low on the massive "TO DO LIST"
That is until I realized how relatively simple it is to clean a keyboard.
Yes, you can stock up on a couple cans of compressed air but why bother when you can use your kids craft supplies.

Here are a few ingenious ways to clean your keyboard using craft supplies or office supplies!

  • Silly Putty works wonders for reaching the crevices between keys and magically attracts the dirt and grime

  • Paint brushes are handy for sweeping crumbs and dirt left behind (please tell me I'm not the only one who checks emails why eating chocolate covered pretzels?)

  • Pipe cleaners are very effective little critters for cleaning between the keys

  • Packaging tape or any clear tape will work fine.  After, be sure to wipe the keyboard with a wet cloth to remove any adhesive.

  • The adhesive part of Post It notes will also work wonders on the dirt and grime

  • If you don't have a small paint brush than reach for a Q tip instead.

Happy cleaning everyone!!
What are your favorite things to eat or drink while playing on the computer?  I'll feel less alienated if you share your snacking secrets too!

P.S.  Today's post was going to be a lovely back to school tribute but my computer's card reader is down again so I can't upload any pics right now!!!! Urghhh!  Off to the PC paramedics we go.
